Writing Bangla in Ubuntu Linux 10.04 LTS By Avro

Avro Phonetic is a fine tool for write Bangla. Most of you may not know it has Ubuntu version. I am going to tell you how to install Avro Phonetic in ubuntu LTS 10.04.

Step 1. At first Download Avro for Debian based Destro from here . Then install it. This installation process is similar to windows XP's .exe file installation. So nothing confusing here.

Step 2. Go Application > Ubuntu Software Center and search for "SCIM" .
Install "SCIM Input Method Setup".

Step 3. Now go to 'Terminal'. If you do not know where 'Terminal' is. Then follow "Applications > Accessories > Terminal"

Step 4: Write this command and press enter.

im-switch-c

Step 5. Then you will get a screen like Picture 1. Select 6 then press enter.

Step 6. Now go to System>Preferences>SCIM Input Method Setup . Click on Global Setup of FrontEnd Tree like screen shot Picture 2.

Step 7. Make hot key Ctrl+Space for "Trigger","Turn On" and "Turn Off" like screen shot Picture 3.

Step 8. Now do Back from there. Then go Global Setup of IMEngine tree. Disable everything here. only select Avro Phonetic of Bengali tree. take a Look screen shot Picture 4 for better understanding.

Your task is nearly done. Press apply and then ok. Restart your PC. If you want to write anywhere then press Ctrl and Space same time, then you will see Avro Phonetic at right hand side of your screen's lower panel. Now you are ready to write Bangla.

Had avro running all the way upto version 10.04 of Ubuntu, but in 10.10 it doesn't seem to switch to bangla. I have the scim icon on top, but it doesn't switch. scim-avro is installed as is scim. Any clues?
